The '''burnout style''' is a style of swimming characterized by a full-out sprint in the beginning of the workout which tires out the swimmer to the point where successive workout sets are swum at much slower speeds. Unlike an intentional workout which alternates "fast" and "slow" sets, the burnout style is characterized by the fact that the burnout is actually unintentional and is usually the result of poor [[w:pacing]] on the part of the swimmer.
